Programme Introduction
Science and technology enhance our quality of life while simultaneously presenting pressing global challenges such as resource depletion, pollution and climate change. The world now faces the challenge of pursuing technological advancements without compromising our environment. Chemistry is the key to transforming the global industry towards a sustainable future and the recent development of artificial intelligence (AI) has opened new pathways achieve this goal.
In this programme, students will explore the role of AI in driving sustainable chemistry. In the morning, students will attend lectures on the foundations of analytical chemistry, green chemistry and eco-friendly materials, learning how AI applications are powering these fields. Equipped with the scientific knowledge from the lectures, students will make use of what they have learnt to perform exciting experiments in the afternoon. These experiments include the synthesis and characterization of eco-friendly bioplastics, the green synthesis of pyrrole derivative, and spectroscopic analyses supported by AI.
Learning should not be confined to classrooms. In addition to STEM education, students are going to have a glimpse into our chemistry curriculum and CUHK. Admission talk, laboratory tour, campus tour and CUHK treasure hunt will be arranged for students to make the programme more fruitful and enjoyable.
